Under the banner “Building the Future of Health”, the Helmholtz Zentrum München combined the formal inauguration of the now fully-operational Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC) with a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus research facility, which is set to open in 2022. Both the HPC and the HDC seek to solve globally-important health issues and serve as models for interdisciplinary collaboration. To increase the possibilities for collaboration, the HPC and HDC facilities are been built in close proximity to each other—and near other highly-regarded, nationally-important initiatives at our Neuherberg Campus, such as the German Mouse clinic, the bio-repository of the national cohort (NAKO), and the Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Coordination Unit (HAICU).
Inspired by the Helmholtz Zentrum München’s desire to transform the way research is performed and to create a new scientific culture that focuses on engineering medical solutions, rather than on pure discovery, the HPC is driving progress at the intersection of bioengineering, biomedicine and bioinformatics. We are grateful for the recognition, and generous support, given by our esteemed guests and our national and state donors. Together, we can accelerate the development of tangible medical solutions to our most pressing health problems and build a better, healthier future for humanity.
